Last year, Todd Giatrelis’s 11-year-old daughter celebrated her birthday with friends at Sugar Plum Parties in Stoneham.

Sarah Towne, a family friend and Giatrelis’s business partner, attended.

“We thought it was a great concept,’’ said Towne of the all-inclusive birthday party venue for young girls.

As it turned out, the owner had been looking to sell.

Giatrelis, Towne, and a third partner, Ashley Shimabukuro, bought Sugar Plum Parties in July 2015.

Previously, they had started Flip Flop Shops, a retail chain selling casual footwear, sunglasses, and other summer items, which grew to more than 90 franchises worldwide. They sold that business in October 2015.

“We were looking for the next thing and we thought [Sugar Plum Parties] was it,’’ said Giatrelis. They operate the store in Stoneham, and began franchising efforts this year.

We spoke with Giatrelis, 51, of Belmont, and Towne, 35, of Arlington.
