A Hyper way to see videos
By Michael Andor Brodeur

A recent study estimated that adults in the US spend nearly an hour and 15 minutes per day watching video on digital devices – that’s a lot of screaming goat footage. There’s only so much time in the day, but there’s a seemingly limitless flow of incoming video — and very few ways to weed out the time-wasters.

A new YouTube-powered app called Hyper is aiming to solve this problem through that now ubiquitous C-word: curation. Tapping a team of journalists and filmmakers, Hyper pulls together a daily playlist of 10 videos, assembled to match your selected categories of interest. If your Facebook has been overrun by cats and candidates, Hyper could be just the feed you need.

PRO Hyper is leaps and bounds better an aesthetic experience than nearly any other mobile video app out there. Also, playlists are downloaded over Wi-Fi, so using the app doesn’t have to be a kick in the data plan.

CON My first batch of videos totaled nearly 45 minutes. An adjustable cap on the length of your playlist would be nice. Your battery might agree.
