The Division 3 indoor track meet is Feb. 14. But as far as Hopkinton High girls’ coach Brian Hall is concerned, his Hillers already have stated their case.

Amassing 73 points, the Hopkinton girls won the State Coaches Indoor Relays on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. The Hillers more than doubled up Winchester (33) and Hingham (32) in the top three.

“A lot of coaches feel like this is the real state championship because it takes a full team effort,’’ Hall said.

“You can win the state meet with four or five individuals. This is a true test of a team. We’re psyched.’’

The convincing victory was especially satisfying for Hopkinton, which finished runner-up to Hingham at last year’s meet, losing by a point, 41-40.

“All of us came in with the high expectation of winning this,’’ said Hopkinton junior captain Caitlyn Halloran, who competed in the 4 x 50 hurdles, the 4 x 400, and the high jump.

“Being able to come out on top finally feels great.’’

Said senior captain Isabelle Giordano (sprint and distance medleys): “We’ve worked really hard at practice and we have great coaching. We wouldn’t be here without them.’’

In the 10 boys’ and girls’ events, each school was represented by three to four athletes. So depth was integral to team success.

In the 4 x 50-yard relay, Hopkinton displayed its depth, taking first (25.40 seconds) with its “A’’ team and fourth (26.14) with its “B’’ team.

“We’ve noticed there’s been a ton of depth especially with this year’s freshman class,’’ Hopkinton senior captain Emily Mastroianni said.

“They’re able to do a ton of different races, and it really comes down to that.’’

Hopkinton won four of the 10 events: 4 x 800 (9:54.75), 4 x 50 (25.40), 4 x 50 hurdles (30.81), and 1,600 sprint medley (4:14.85).

Dominating the distance medley, the Concord-Carlisle girls (12:28.14) were three seconds shy of the state Division 3 record (12:25.27 by Bishop Feehan, 2014).

Taking victories in three events: 4 x 50 (28.10), long jump (17.79 meters), and high jump (5.43 meters), North Attleborough (54 points) won the boys’ meet, with Catholic Memorial (34) and Dartmouth (31) rounding out the top three.

The Amherst-Pelham boys shined in the 4 x 800; their clocking of 8:06.19 was 24 seconds better than runner-up Plymouth North (8:30.35).

The Division 4 relays are Sunday morning at the Reggie.
